The Minerals Commission has donated GH¢2 million to the Appiate Support Fund.
The contribution is to support government’s effort to rebuild the community and also provide relief for affected persons.
The donation was made by the Chairperson of the Board of Minerals Commission, Barbara Oteng Gyasi and the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi.
Speaking on behalf of the Minerals Commission, the Chairperson of the Board of Minerals Commission, Barbara Oteng Gyasi noted that they hope the gesture will also motivate others to donate to the fund so that government will quickly restore the lives of the people in the community.
She noted that: “we will support the team investigating the explosion. It is in line with the legal and regulatory health, safety and technical regime of the mining industry under the mining minerals and mining explosive regulations as well as the minerals and mining health and safety technical regulations. Without a doubt, the appropriate sanctions would be applied where required at the conclusion of the investigation.”
“The Commission reaffirms its commitment to improving standards and increasing sensitization on safety for all. We believe that this donation of GH¢2 million is going to help the committee kickstart its work in reconstructing the community, and it will also ginger others to donate to the fund so that quickly we can restore the lives of the people of Appiate and have them return to their land. So today we are here to present the cheque to the chairperson and the members of the Appiate Support Fund. Thank you very much, and we wish you all the best”.
Receiving the donation, the Chairperson of the Appiate Support Fund, Dr. Joyce Aryee thanked the Minerals Commission for the gesture.
She called on Ghanaians to donate to achieve the aim of rebuilding Appiatse.
