Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of violating cease-fire agreements that allowed people to be evacuated.
During a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made the remark.
According to a Russian government statement, Macron contacted Putin on Sunday, and the two leaders discussed the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear power reactors.
The International Atomic Energy Agency officially confirmed the details of their meeting (IAEA).
The two leaders discussed the issue of evacuating civilians from conflict zones, and at this level, the Russian leader told his French counterpart that Ukraine is failing to follow through on “agreements reached on such an acute humanitarian issue.”
“Ukrainian nationalists refused to allow evacuation from these towns “And the cessation of hostilities was once again used to consolidate forces and means in their positions,” Putin said. In response to Macron’s question about holding a trilateral (IAEA-Russia-Ukraine) meeting in the Chernobyl zone to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “In principle, this idea could be useful, but it would be worth considering whether to hold such a meeting via videoconference or in a third country.”
