Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has announced his retirement from the army.
“I am happy to announce my retirement after 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world,” he wrote on Twitter.
He rose quickly through the ranks of the Ugandan army after training at Sandhurst, an elite British military academy, as well as in Egypt, the United States, and South Africa.
The 47-year-old has been mentioned as a possible successor to his 77-year-old father, who has ruled since 1986.
