Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate, has called for unity among all caucuses in the All Progressives Congress in the interest of all.
The former governor of Abia State made the remarks amid a leadership crisis in the party’s Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee.
The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, declared himself acting Chairman of the APC-CECPC on Monday.
However, a letter he wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission about the APC’s national convention was rejected by the electoral body because it did not come from the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, who the Commission recognized as the APC-CECPC chairman.
“It is critical that we prioritize the interests of our great party over our personal interests for the sake of Nigerians even after the 2023 general elections.”
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Orji Kalu stated that the APC must avoid selective leadership, nepotism, arrogance, and disrespect for the rule of law.
“I am appealing to the various caucuses of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to unite and harmonize for the good of all.”
As a result, I’m urging those in charge of the party’s leadership to include every caucus in the party’s operations.
“To save our party, we must avoid selective leadership, nepotism, arrogance, and disregard for the rule of law.”
“As the party’s leader, President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership is supreme.” The Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving and former governors, serving and ex-ministers, serving and ex-members of the National Assembly, and other party leaders must rise to the occasion and defend the party’s unity,” he said.
