Abdulmumin Jibrin, a party chieftain in the All Progressives Congress, has stated that the party cannot rally around Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is reportedly eyeing a presidential bid in 2023, because it is the wrong time for the Vice President to run for office.
Jibrin claimed that former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu, who was more stable than Osinbajo, should succeed the president.
The chieftain, who also serves as the Director-General of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support Group Management Council, made the remarks during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, which SaharaReporters watched.
The journalist conducting the interview had asked Jibrin to explain how Tinubu amassed his wealth in the midst of allegations of bullion vans delivering state funds to his home in 2019.
“What we should focus on is the person’s pedigree,” Jibrin responded. The infrastructure was the means by which he carried out his plan in Lagos. These are the things we should be looking at. The emphasis should now be on the candidate’s capacity and competence.”
“I’m putting it to you as well. You’ve asked your question, and I’ll give you a simple and straightforward answer. And if you keep asking the question, you’ll get the same answer. They’re all garbage from the internet that people keep together, and we’re not going to elevate such a discussion. When the campaign begins, we will present facts and figures to Nigerians.

“I admire Osinbajo. People even said that in a modern democracy, the vice president succeeds the president. But, unfortunately, Asiwaju (Tinubu) is still ahead of him in all of the parameters that he will use, and we want to win the election.
So, if the vice president is Asiwaju, the National Leader of the party is Asiwaju. So, in modern democracies, the National Leader succeeds the President. Unfortunately, I believe it is the wrong time for him (Osinbajo); otherwise, we would have rallied around him.”
