They also destroyed signposts and burned party paraphernalia belonging to the area’s Member of Parliament (MP), Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama.
They accused the MP of attempting to remove the names of alleged supporters of MASLOC boss Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah from the register in order to elect his preferred candidates.
According to them, the register used for the exercise contained unapproved names and individuals, which violated the party’s constitution.
One of the dissatisfied supporters who spoke to Graphic Online stated that they would not accept any attempt by the party’s leadership to impose their will on the electorates.
“In fact, we discovered that they had entered family and friends’ names, as well as their favorite names, into the register.” “The constituency secretary met with polling station chairmen, secretaries, and coordinators and informed them that no existing polling station executive would be removed from the album,” he claimed. “However, on Sunday, the album was circulating on social media with some members’ names removed.”
Mr Fuseini Bawah Zakaria, the Constituency Secretary, declined to comment when contacted.
Meanwhile, at a press conference in Yendi on Monday, a group calling itself Concern Youth of NPP refuted claims that some names were removed from the register and that it was compiled based on family and friends.
Mr Mohammed Amin Zakaria, the group’s spokesperson, told the media that the register was compiled in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
He urged the youth to address their grievances through the proper channels rather than resorting to protest, which was against the party’s electoral guidelines.
This comes after the Party’s leadership warned that members who do not use internal mechanisms to address their concerns would be expelled.
