On Tuesday, Russia’s foreign ministry announced that US President Joe Biden and a dozen other top officials had been barred from entering the country in retaliation for US sanctions.
The measure, which also applies to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, “is the result of the current US administration’s extremely Russophobic policy,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
In response to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, the US barred Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov from entering the country, as well as imposing sanctions that effectively cut Russia off from the rest of the world.
Russia also placed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, CIA Director William Burns, and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on its no-fly list.
