Cynthia Morgan, a Nigerian dancehall artiste, revealed on Monday how Grammy award-winning superstar Burna Boy nearly cost her her record label deal.
This came as she refuted the notion that Burna Boy, who appeared in her music video, was merely a “video vixen” rather than “Africa’s biggest artist.”
According to her, she insisted on including Burna Boy in the video, which nearly cost her a deal with her then-label boss, Jude Okoye.
This all started when a Twitter feud erupted between fans of popular singers who wanted to praise their idols.
During an argument, a tweep slammed Burna Boy for being a “video vixen” for Morgan, despite the fact that Nigerian superstar Wizkid was already present.
Morgan responded to the tweet by saying, “Burna Boy has always been a big artist.” You were only a child.”
Morgan, who posted a screenshot of the tweet on her Instagram story, then explained how she got Burna Boy to appear in the “Simatiniya” video.
“To me, Burna Boy was the biggest artiste in Africa when I chose him for the Simatiniya video,” she explained.
And I remember almost losing my record deal with Jude Okoye’s label because I stood firm in my belief that I only wanted Burna Boy and no one else.
“I know a lot of you enjoy living in lies, whether because of tribalism or personal hatred, but please, I never want to see my name in any sentence that has to do with religion.”
“Until I pick up the mic again, he is the best and biggest artist in Africa.”
Morgan, who stopped singing after a falling out with Okoye, had previously criticized a Burna Bwoy song.
Morgan stated that Burna Boy was ‘losing it’ with his music arrangement when he featured Wizkid in his song, B.D’or, in December 2021.
