Peju Johnson, an actress, has stated that she is unconcerned about the backlash she received after posting a video in which she appeared semi-naked. “I don’t consider my body to be my selling point,” she told Saturday Beats. This is how I am. I don’t dress this seductively because I see my body as a selling point. I’m not going to pretend. Whatever one does, there will always be those who like it and those who don’t.
I make no attempt to impress others. I always try to be true to myself. I used to care (about such criticism), but I no longer do. Even if I covered up (my body), some people would still criticize me.”
Though the actress stated that dressing sexily does not make one impure, many people on social media disagreed with her. “We have a culture in Africa,” she explained. Opening up in other countries is actually quite common. Being sexy does not imply being a slut. I used to dress like this before I got into acting. Even when I was a virgin, people called me a variety of derogatory names because of my appearance.
That was when I was living outside of Nigeria. People make a lot of assumptions. I travel a lot and have seen a lot of things. People simply enjoy condemning others who dress in a revealing manner. Meanwhile, some people who cover up (their bodies) usually sleep with multiple boyfriends. Some of them even run marathons (prostitution).
Despite the fact that the actress stated that dressing sexily does not make one attractive,
Johnson also stated that she does not believe an actress can sleep her way to the top of the industry. “I don’t believe an actress can sleep her way to the top of her career,” she added. Many of them have been doing this for a long time and are still unknown to the general public. You won’t be out there if God doesn’t want you to be. I am opposed to people sleeping their way to the top.”
