Mohamed Salah has decided to leave Liverpool and is interested in a move to Barcelona – Paris Saint-Germain is another possible destination, according to Sport.
According to a Spanish news outlet, the Egypt international will not be staying at Liverpool.
Salah has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool, and his current deal is set to expire in June 2023.
Sport understands he has decided not to extend his contract, with Barcelona and PSG interested in his services.
Salah is said to have given Barcelona the go-ahead to begin talks with Liverpool.
Interestingly, Sport adds that Barcelona approached Liverpool No.11 two years ago in 2020, but their financial situation prevented a genuine move.
Now that things have changed at Camp Nou, it appears that Salah’s move to Barcelona is a genuine possibility.
Of course, losing Salah would be a nightmare scenario for Liverpool.
He is irreplaceable, and his departure would reverberate throughout Anfield.
However, if it is to happen and Liverpool is powerless to stop it, the Reds might as well be smart about it.
Consider it this way. Salah is 29 years old, and while he is in excellent health, he doesn’t have much time left at the highest level.
Pedri and Gavi, the 19-year-old and 17-year-old Barcelona wonderkids, are two players who have years left at that level.
Interestingly, Liverpool is a fan of both. Jürgen Klopp is reportedly interested in Pedri, according to the Mirror, while Gerard Romero believes the Reds are interested in Gavi.
As a result, if Barcelona wants Salah, Liverpool should include one of the midfield sensations in the deal.
It would be painful at first, but it would be a wise move for Liverpool’s long-term future.
