Andy Murray has pledged to donate his prize money for the remainder of the year to children affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The former world number one from the United Kingdom is collaborating with Unicef to provide medical supplies and development kits.
More than two million people have fled Ukraine as a result of Russia’s attack.
“The escalating conflict in Ukraine threatens over 7.5 million children,” Murray, 34, said.
“It’s critical education continues,” said the three-time Grand Slam winner, who is also an ambassador for Unicef UK. “Unicef is working to enable access to learning for displaced children, as well as supporting the rehabilitation of damaged schools, along with replacement equipment and furniture.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the sport’s governing bodies announced a $700,000 (£530,000) donation to aid humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and to support the Ukraine Tennis Federation.
