The Peoples Democratic Party’s South-South zone has urged the Federal Government to listen to the voices of Nigerians and establish a State Police to combat the country’s growing insecurity.
This comes as they call for a concerted effort to strengthen the operational capacities of the country’s security agencies.
They also expressed concern about the continuous violation of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s Acts by the use of a sole administrator in the running and management of the Commission, and they urged the FG to make the forensic audit exercise public.
These were some of the resolutions contained in a communique read by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu, and issued at the end of the party’s stakeholders’ meeting on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“That the zone is concerned about the state of insecurity across the country and calls for a more concerted effort to improve the operational capacity of security agencies and the establishment of State Police,” according to the communique. As a result, it was decided that the zone would reiterate its demand for the establishment of state police. ”
The zone objects to the continuous and unlawful violation of the Niger Delta Development Commission Act by the use of a Sole Administrator in the management and running of the agency, and urges the FG to form a Governing Board as soon as possible.
“The zone also demands that the NDDC’s forensic audit be made public and implemented as soon as possible.”
The zone also fully supports the Southern Governors Forum’s position that the next President of Nigeria should be from the country’s south.
“That the zone commends the South-South PDP governors for putting the region on the map through the development projects that are initiated and commissioned on a regular basis.”
“The zone also agreed that the NNPC should recognize the region when locating infrastructure projects similar to those being implemented in other regions.”
They praised the government of Akwa Ibom State, led by Governor Udom Emmanuel, for making the summit a memorable experience.
