It will be remembered that in 2017, Vice President Bawumia stated, while giving an account of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s first 100 days in office, that they were able to “arrest” the fall of the Ghana Cedi against the Dollar.
During a 40-minute presentation at a town hall meeting to assess President Akufo-first Addo’s 100 days in office, the Vice President said the free fall of the Cedi had been arrested, and the keys had been given to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for safekeeping.
“When we arrived, it [Cedi] was running; essentially, we have arrested it [Cedi], and the IGP has the keys; he’s locked it up; we want to ensure that we pursue sound policies to keep the cedi stable; it has appreciated this year.”
Years later, former President Mahama believes the Cedi should have arrested Vice President Bawumia.
Explaining why he (Mr Mahama) believes the Dollar has arrested Dr Bawumia, the former President stated that Dr Bawumia is now quiet about the Cedi’s free fall because he has been arrested by the Dollar.
Former President Mahama made the remarks on Monday afternoon, March 21, when he launched the TEIN app at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
According to Mr Mahama, the Cedi had deteriorated against the US dollar under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia as a result of mismanagement and populist policies.
He stated that the youth have suffered the most as a result of President Akufo-economic Addo’s mismanagement, urging Ghanaians not to lose hope and that the NDC would come to save the situation.
According to him, the NDC would relieve Ghanaians of the hardship they are experiencing as a result of the Akufo-Addo-led government’s poor governance.
Mr Mahama stated that President Akufo-short-sighted Addo’s policies have contributed to Ghanaians’ current economic hardships, and that Ghanaians will soon awaken from their nightmare to a new dawn of hope.
