One of the Nigerian students who fled the Ukraine conflict died in his hometown of Sokoto, in northern Nigeria.
It is still unclear what caused Huzaifa Habibu’s death.
According to his father, Habibu Halilu Modaci, he was taken to the hospital after complaining of discomfort and loss of appetite.
The 22-year-old student, who was studying medicine in Ukraine, was set to graduate next year and had only recently returned to Nigeria.
It was his first visit home in three years.
Mr Modaci stated that his son had described the horrors of the war and the desperate attempt to flee Ukraine.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month, Nigeria evacuated over 1,500 of its students.
However, there are still around 100 people trapped in Kherson.
