Augustine Eguavon, Nigeria’s coach, has revealed that Samuel Chukwueze and Innocent Bonke may be unavailable for the second leg of the World Cup playoff match against Ghana.
The pair were substituted in the first leg in Kumasi but have yet to recover from their injuries.
In an address to the media, Eguavon stated that, while there is some doubt about the game, he has enough men to ensure qualification on Tuesday night.
“Chukwueze had a scan, we are still waiting for the results, and Bonke is not participating in today’s training session due to a knock,” Eguavon explained.
“Bonke put in a lot of effort [in the first leg].” He overexerted himself. We know he worked extremely hard for the team. There are 24 hours until the game.
I’m not sure what will happen, but the doctors are working on them; once the results are in, we’ll make a decision and know what will happen on the pitch tomorrow.
But don’t worry, we have enough men to finish the job,” he said.
The winner of the second leg will advance to the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar later this year.
