According to the Kaduna State government, eight people have been declared dead.
The Nigerian government has announced plans to improve railway security by implementing an integrated surveillance system in the Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan, and Warri-Itakpe railway systems.
This was revealed by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, in an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority on Wednesday morning.
This comes as the Kaduna State government announced that eight people have been declared dead as a result of the attacks, with many more still missing.
What the Minister has to say
The minister expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured and the release of those kidnapped.
“It is a senseless and sobering attack, and we as a nation must not give in to bandits and terrorists; they intend to cause panic, but we must not give in.”
“The good news is that I spoke with the Minister of Transportation (Rotimi Amaechi), and he assured me that the integrated surveillance system would be in place before the tracks are reopened,” Mohammed said.
He went on to say that it will not only be for the Abuja-Kaduna rail, but also for the Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe-Ajaokuta railways.
