Bruno Fernandes, a midfielder for Manchester United, has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the club.
The 27-year-old, who joined for an initial £47 million in January 2020, is now under contract until 2026, with an option for a one-year extension.
Fernandes has 49 goals in 117 games for United in all competitions.
“There’s so much more I want to accomplish here,” he said, “and the same goes for the rest of the squad and staff.”
“More than anything, we want to give the fans the success they deserve,” Fernandes said, adding that he has 39 assists.
“We’ve had some incredible experiences together, but the best is yet to come from myself and this group.”
Manchester United director of football John Murtough described Fernandes as the “ultimate professional” who has performed “remarkably consistently” since his arrival.
“Bruno, like everyone else at the football club, is incredibly ambitious and determined to deliver sustained success on the pitch in order to return us to title contention,” Murtough added.
Despite only joining midway through the season, Fernandes was deemed a key signing and won the club’s Matt Busby Player of the Year award, which he also won last season.
Since his arrival, no player has created more goals for the club, and he was the club’s top scorer last season, with 28 goals across all competitions.
However, his performance this season has drew criticism, and United have slipped to sixth place in the Premier League table, following the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim head coach.
