Since the invasion began, about 18,000 Russian military forces have been killed, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The number of Russian military personnel claimed killed in Ukraine at that level exceeds the high end of NATO’s estimate of 7,000 to 15,000 Russian troops killed in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, a Red Cross convoy will try once more on Saturday to help civilians flee the encircled Ukrainian city of Mariupol safely.
The International Committee of the Red Cross sent a team of humanitarian workers out of the port city on Friday to lead a convoy out of the city, which has been under siege since the beginning of Russia’s five-week-long invasion, but they turned back.
Conditions had made it “impossible to proceed,” according to the ICRC, which urged parties to provide the necessary security guarantees.
