It has been revealed that MTN Nigeria Communications paid a total of N757 billion in direct and indirect taxes to government agencies in 2021.
This information was revealed at the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s National Tax Dialogue Event.
According to a statement signed by the company’s secretary, Uto Ukpanah, titled “MTN Named Best Tax Compliant Organization in Nigeria:… recognized as one of the top 20 taxpayers by FIRS,” the company’s total tax contribution to all government agencies reached N757.6 billion in 2021.
“In 2021, MTN Nigeria’s total tax contribution to all government agencies, including the FIRS, was N757.6 billion, while the FIRS collected N6.4 trillion in tax revenue,” it said.
“In the 2021 tax year, MTN Nigeria paid the FIRS a total of N618.7 billion in direct and indirect taxes, accounting for roughly 13.5 percent of the total FIRS collection.”
During the event, the company was also named the most tax-compliant organization and one of the top 20 taxpayers in the country.
“I am delighted at our performance and recognition at this year’s National Tax Dialogue event,” said MTN’s Chief Financial Officer, Modupe Kadri, who accepted the awards on behalf of the company.
