Salah, whose contract with the club expires in June 2023, is close to agreeing to a new contract that will keep him with the club till the conclusion of his career.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is “happy” with Salah’s contract talks, which are currently being discussed between the “decisive parties,” but Salah was tight-lipped about his future at Anfield in an interview with Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash with league leaders Manchester City, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from 4pm (kick-off 4.30pm).
The Egypt international described his continuing contract negotiations as a “difficult position,” but added that now is not the time to be selfish and discuss his contract situation, as he concentrates on Liverpool’s Premier League championship defense.
When asked what he could say regarding his Liverpool contract predicament, he said: “Well, not much, to be honest, but I can say that there are a lot of things that people don’t know about it.
“I can’t be self-centered and talk about my problems. We are in the most crucial phase for the team, so all I have to do now is talk about the team and concentrate on what is coming up with the squad, which is the most essential thing.
“That’s all I have to say about it. Hopefully, we will be more positive and wait and see what happens. When asked if he was optimistic about a new deal at Liverpool, he replied:
“I can’t say yes, I can’t say no, but I’ve already stated what I want numerous times.” But, once again, I can’t go into great detail about my contract right now because of the sensitivity of the matter.
“I can’t just go into the news and talk about my contract because the club needs to win.” “All I do is concentrate on the team.”
This season, Liverpool has signed a number of senior players to new contracts, but fans are still waiting for Salah to sign a new deal.
Despite the extended contract negotiations, Salah assures that the rumors will have no impact on his on-field performance.
When asked if the speculation over his future at Anfield had affected his performances, he replied, “No, not at all.”
“I’ve had a few conversations with the manager, and I’m quite professional and know what I’m doing.
“I’m nearly the first to arrive and the last to depart. I know exactly what I’m doing. As a result, I am unconcerned about it. I’m only thinking about the squad right now. For me, that is the most significant factor.
“I’m focused on winning trophies and delivering everything I have to the club.”
