According to the 2021 Public Safety and Crime Report, the Ashanti Region had the greatest number of murder cases out of nearly 200 reported across the country last year.
According to the Bureau of Public Safety’s 2021 report, the region accounted for 23% of all homicide cases registered nationwide last year.
According to the Bureau, there were 531 violent crimes registered in 2021, up from 377 incidents in 2020, a 40.8 percent rise. It was also linked to a 53.7 percent rise in mortality.
The Greater Accra and Ashanti areas, according to the report, had the largest number of armed robberies last year, with each region reporting 19 percent of over 150 armed robberies in 2021.
In terms of guns use, the Bureau found that 74 percent of recorded armed robbery instances featured the use of firearms, while 20 percent of murder and manslaughter cases involved the use of firearms.
Murder/manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault are the top three most recorded violent crimes in 2021, according to the report.
In the meantime, according to the Bureau’s report, drowning, illegal mining pit collapses, and structure collapses were the top three most commonly reported occurrences in 2021.
Drowning was responsible for 43% of deaths in the General Index category, while mining pit collapses and structure collapses accounted for 17% and 9% of deaths, respectively.
