Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has urged residents to embrace peace in the state’s best interests.
Uzodinma, lamenting the state’s recent insecurity, urged the state’s sponsors and masterminds of violence to embrace peace.
During the continuous voter registration at Isinweke, in the Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of the state, suspected assailants assassinated one official of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The governor added that after fasting, praying, and almsgiving during Lent, Christians should soberly reflect on their contributions to the growth of the Christian love they preach and the peace of Imo in a statement released on Saturday to commemorate Easter.
“It is truly hilarious and distressing that over 90% of both perpetrators and sponsors of insecurity in Imo State, and indeed throughout Igboland, claim to be Christians,” Uzodimma stated. Are these Christians genuine Christ followers? Do they even remember the fifth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill,” which means, “Thou shalt not kill?” The solution should be self-evident.
“I have actually gone on my knees in many fora to implore the sponsors and perpetrators of these senseless atrocities to lay down their swords and embrace peace and reconciliation, regardless of whatever grudges they may have.” I’ve also requested forgiveness from anyone who has been offended by any of the policies or actions of the Imo State administration, which I currently head.
“In the spirit of Easter, I’d want to renew this call for forgiveness, peace, and reconciliation in our state,” the statement said.
The governor was described in the statement as stating that as governor, he had always prioritized the welfare of the people of Imo State before all other concerns.
