Tim Westwood, a well-known UK DJ, has been accused of sexual assault by a number of Black women, according to recent allegations.
Three women claim they were victims of the DJ’s ‘opportunistic and predatory’ sexual behavior, while four others claim they were touched by him at events, according to the Guardian and BBC on Tuesday, April 26.
Westwood, 64, is best known for his freestyle studio sessions with international superstar singers and rappers.
The ladies, all of whom are Black, allege that the assaults occurred when they were in their late teens or early twenties, with the first alleged incident occurring in 1992 and the most recent in 2017.
They tell their stories in the BBC Three documentary Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power, which will show on Tuesday, April 26 at 9 p.m.
They claim Westwood exploited them by abusing his position in the music industry.
Westwood allegedly exposed himself in front of one victim, who was 19 at the time of the alleged behavior.
She told the BBC and the Guardian, ‘I didn’t actually see him undo his trousers.’ ‘The fact that he really tapped me to turn around and look alerted me to the fact that he was exposing himself.’
She then claimed she had been the victim of a second incident of predatory sexual behavior.
Westwood returned to the room naked after preparing himself a drink, according to the woman.
‘That’s when I discovered he had a condom and was taking it out of the packet and putting it on,’ she explained.
‘I recall him tossing it down.’ It was yellow, as far as I recall. I remember that very clearly because it was around that time that my brain began to shut down as well.’
She claimed she was ‘frozen’ after Westwood initiated sex with her.
Another woman, 20, was allegedly encouraged to conduct work experience with Westwood at the time of her encounter. She claims she went to London to meet him and that he “immediately began groping her leg and face while he was doing so.”
As the woman tried to bat his hand away, Westwood began driving erratically, prompting a police officer on a motorcycle to pull alongside the vehicle and knock on the passenger window.
The woman claimed that West Wood drove her to his flat despite the fact that no sleeping arrangements had been agreed, and that she had planned to stay in a hotel for her work experience.
He allegedly sat next to her and ‘attempted to kiss her neck and take parts of her clothing,’ according to her.
‘I didn’t offer him any sort of enticement.’ She informed the two magazines that there was no flirtation and that he initiated sex.
‘I’m alone in London with this dude.’ Who knows how he’ll respond if I try to get out of this situation. So I simply accept it.’
One lady told the media, “Someone taking advantage of my ignorance and lack of confidence isn’t something I should have to carry with shame.”
None of the women had reported their encounters to the police, and they all requested anonymity.
He refuted all of the charges on Tuesday, with a spokesman for the DJ stating that the reports are absolutely false.
‘I can certainly affirm that I have never had an inappropriate relationship with anyone under the age of 18,’ he stated in a statement to MailOnline.
‘I’m aware of anonymous sources attempting to spread false information online. I can assure you that such charges are baseless and without merit.’
After anonymous allegations of inappropriate behavior against Westwood surfaced on social media in June 2020, the women decided to come forward with their stories.
In 1994, Westwood joined BBC Radio 1 to anchor the UK’s first national rap show.
He also presented the BBC’s 1Xtra daily drive time show from September 2009 to September 2012, when he was succeeded by Charlie Sloth.
Following his departure from the show, Westwood continued his Saturday night Rap Show until 2013, when he announced his departure from the BBC after 20 years.
