Manchester City were unable to qualify for the Champions League final after losing the second leg of their semi-final to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Manchester City came within seconds of reaching the Champions League final, but were heartbroken when Real Madrid came back late to win their semi-final.
City had a foot in the Champions League final when Riyad Mahrez put them ahead at the Bernabeu in the first leg last week at the Etihad. After the first game, Pep Guardiola brought in Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo, who played brilliantly for 89 minutes in the second match.
Walker was a dangerous inclusion, according to Guardiola, but he played for 60 minutes before being replaced, and Mahrez’s well-taken strike put them two goals ahead on aggregate.
Rodrygo, on the other hand, stunned City by scoring on the stroke of 90 minutes and then in injury time to send the game to extra time. Then, in extraordinary circumstances, Karim Benzema won a penalty and converted it to send City out.
