On Victory Day, when Europe honors the formal surrender of Germany to the Allies in World War Two, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy declared on Sunday that evil has returned to Ukraine.
In a video message, he claimed that the life that soldiers fought for in that fight came to an end on Feb. 24 when Russian forces invaded.
“The darkness has returned. Again!” According to Zelenskiy. “In a different guise, with different slogans, but with the same goal.”
He did, however, predict that Ukraine and her supporters would triumph.
“No villain can hide in a bunker and escape responsibility,” he added.
Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, spent his final days in a Berlin bunker, where he committed suicide in the final days of the war.
Moscow has been conducting a “special military operation” in Ukraine since February 24 to disarm the country and cleanse it of “Nazis” and anti-Russian nationalism fueled by the West. Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of launching an unjustified aggressive campaign.
Thousands have died and approximately 10 million people have been displaced as a result of the invasion in Ukraine. It has left Russia subject to harsh Western sanctions, raising worries of a larger conflict between the two countries.
Victory Day, which falls on May 9, is one of Russia’s most important national holidays, commemorating the country’s overwhelming victory in World War II.
