Former President Goodluck Jonathan has distanced himself from a northern political party that purchased the APC presidential nomination for him. The Bayelsa-born lawmaker claimed that the form was bought for him without his permission, and that he found this offensive. On Monday, May 9, a coalition of Northern organisations purchased Jonathan’s nomination form, claiming that he is the greatest candidate to succeed President Buhari in 2023.
Abuja, FCT – Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied any ties to the northern coalition that bought the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidacy and express of interest forms for him. The coalition obtained Jonathan’s forms from the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Monday, May 9.
According to TheCable, the former president’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, stated the purchase was not authorized in a statement released Monday night.
It has come to our attention that a group has supposedly purchased All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
We would like to declare unequivocally that Dr. Jonathan was unaware of the bid and did not authorize it.
We want to make it apparent that if the former President intended to run for office, he would declare his intentions to the public and not enter through the back door.
According to TheCable, the former president’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, stated the purchase was not authorized in a statement released Monday night.
While we appreciate the enormous demand from Nigerians for Dr. Jonathan to run for president in 2023, we must stress that he has made no commitment to this request. “It is considered a disrespect to Dr. Jonathan’s person to purchase a presidential ambition form in his name without his knowledge, given the position he has held in this country.” As a result, the general public is urged to disregard it.”
