Following reports that she had dropped out of the presidential race, Uju Ohanenye, the All Progressives Congress’s only female candidate, has stated that she is still running.
Ohanenye declared that she is competing to win and that she will give it her all in the race.
The presidential candidate spoke in Abuja on Wednesday after receiving an award from the Nzuko Umuada Anambra Advancement International Initiative, a socio-cultural organisation.
She stated that Nigeria requires internal measures to tackle the difficulties it faces.
“We have few women in the contest,” Ohanenye stated. I’m trying to persuade them to come out.
Let us gather our courage. I’m not sure if we’re terrified of you guys. Or do we have a fear of the world?
Because so many women are well-off, they put in long hours. I’m pleading with them to come out. We used to think that because we were all brought up to be loyal to our husbands and to be under a man, we could relax and trust that the men would provide the best for us, but the way things are now, our children are suffering everywhere, and while I don’t think the people in charge aren’t doing their best, a woman’s input is desperately needed.
“To tackle the myriad issues we face, Nigeria requires household interventions that only women can provide.” I’m giving this competition everything I’ve got. It is a falsehood that I have resigned. “I’m not considering it.”
