On the final day of the Bundesliga season, Robert Lewandowski scored his 35th league goal as Bayern Munich announced their top-scoring striker wants to go, amid speculations he could join Barcelona this summer.
In a 2-2 tie at Wolfsburg, Lewandowki scored for the Bundesliga champions.
Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern’s sports director, is adamant that Lewandowski will play for the club next season, stating, “‘Lewy’ has a contract until June 2023.”
However, German media reports that the 33-year-old has refused to sign a new contract and wants to join Barcelona next season.
Salihamidzic confirmed Lewandowksi’s desire to depart. “During our chats, he informed me that he did not want to accept our contract extension offer and that he wanted to quit,” he stated.
After defender Josip Stanisic scored his first Bundesliga goal for the visitors, Bayern went up 2-0 thanks to a precise Lewandowski header from a Thomas Mueller cross.
Wolfsburg clawed their way back thanks to goals from Danish forward Jonas Wind and veteran attacker Max Kruse.
In a 2-1 home win over Hertha Berlin, Erling Haaland made his farewell game for second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
For next season, the Norwegian international is likely to complete a long-awaited move to Manchester City.
At Signal Iduna Park, Haaland equalized from the penalty spot in the second half to cancel out Ishak Belfodil’s early strike for Hertha.
Youssoufa Moukoko, a 17-year-old striker for Dortmund, came off the bench and scored the game-winning goal just seconds after replacing Axel Witsel.
After the final whistle, Haaland thanked the home crowd, while Dortmund said goodbye to sports director Michael Zorc.
The defeat dropped Hertha into 16th place, triggering a two-legged relegation play-off against the second-placed team, presently Hamburg.
“The boys are very weary and worked up,” Fredi Bobic, Hertha’s sports director, said.
They must now believe they can pull it off in these two games.
