Forbes named Ehimuan one of Africa’s 20 Youngest Power Women.
Nigeria, with Africa’s greatest population, understandably accounts for the majority of the continent’s internet users. Google, the corporation to which many internet products and services are linked directly or indirectly, is at the heart of everything digital in Africa. Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, Google Nigeria’s Country Director, is in charge of the company’s business strategy in West Africa.
Forbes, the BBC, and a number of other major media outlets have recognized and honored her.
Forbes named Ehimuan one of Africa’s 20 Youngest Power Women. She was also named one of 30 people changing the world by London Business School, and she was featured in the BBC Africa Power Women series and CNN Innovate Africa.
Juliet Ehimuan was born and raised in Nigeria, where she received her bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife. In 1997, she earned a First-class honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Between 2006 and 2008, Ehimuan earned an MBA in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation from the London Business School.
Between 1995 and 1997, she worked as a Performance Monitoring and Quality Assurance Supervisor for Shell Petroleum Development Company in the oil and gas industry.
She went on to work for Microsoft UK as a Program Manager, where she was in charge of 15 MSN subsidiaries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. She also joined MSN International as the Business Process Manager. She was awarded the Microsoft “Ship-IT” award for successfully launching MSN online subscriptions in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
Juliet Ehimuan quit Microsoft in December 2004 after more than seven years to launch her own enterprise. Strategic Insight Consulting Ltd, which she founded in January 2005 and led for the following four years, provides collaborative programs that connect African business executives and professionals with their worldwide counterparts.
Juliet Ehimuan became General Manager, Strategic Business Units, at Chams Plc in 2009. She would be in charge of leading and devising plans for the strategic business units for the next two years. Ehimuan was named Google’s Country Manager for Nigeria in April 2011. After spending more than a decade outside the nation, she was encouraged to accept the post by her desire to contribute to the industry’s progress and make a difference.
Youtube.ng, a localized version of YouTube that lets Nigerian multimedia and video content providers to share their work, was launched the same year she was appointed.
Google has become involved in creating capacity in Nigeria under her leadership by teaching developers, students, and businesses on how to create amazing Apps, market their businesses online, and improve the quality of learning by providing access to worldwide repositories of information on the Internet. There are also dedicated programs for female developers, such as the Women Techmakers initiative, which was founded in 2014 to support women in the technology field.
Ehimuan has a long list of accomplishments to her name in her 11 years as Google Country Manager, representing the company in all of its business growth projects and cooperation opportunities in the region.
