Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation and APC presidential candidate, said on Friday that if given the chance to succeed President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in 2023, he will lead an inclusive government.
According to a statement released by his media office, the former Rivers State Governor disclosed this during a consultative visit to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and delegates of the party at the Government House in Lokoja.
However, Amaechi, who praised Bello as a fellow presidential candidate, claimed that he (Amaechi) was the most qualified to be the APC’s presidential candidate.
“This is the 28th state I’ve visited in the course of my consultations,” he remarked. I am the party’s main aspirant, not one of the aspirants. Again, I welcome Governor Bello, who has expressed interest in running. He is a young man with the legal right to run for President, but I have more governance and leadership experience than he does.
I’ll take care of everything. I will come to you people and allow you to nominate the Minister coming from Kogi. The idea for this is to include everyone so that you may approach your Minister and he will understand that he is accountable to you.
“Please vote for me instead of everyone else.” As Speaker, I presided over the Speakers’ Forum. As Governor, I served as Chairman of the Governors’ Forum twice, and as DG of President Buhari’s campaign, I managed everyone and the campaign.
At the end of the day, President Buhari was elected. It was the first occasion in Nigeria that an incumbent administration was deposed. So we were determined, just as we are now.”
“Your Excellency, I was really elated when on the day of your Thanksgiving/ declaration you physically displayed your strength and stamina by jogging around the field,” said Governor Bell, who was represented by his Deputy, Edward Onoja.
“There is no question that the future President of Nigeria will be physically and mentally strong. We think that God will provide Nigeria with the best product capable of securing, uniting, and fostering peace.
“We appreciate your remembering to visit Kogi State. It takes power and strength to travel through 28 states. We wish you the best.”
