Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool was awarded Premier League Manager of the Year by the League Managers’ Association on Tuesday.
Both the English League Cup and the FA Cup were won by Liverpool, who defeated Chelsea in penalty shootouts at Wembley on both occasions.
However, Liverpool missed out on the Premier League title by a single point to Manchester City when both Klopp’s and Pep Guardiola’s teams won their respective matches on the final day of a fantastic season.
“It is a tremendous honor, and it was an insane season,” Klopp remarked after receiving his award at the LMA Awards ceremony in London on Tuesday.
We all played for absolutely everything on the last matchday, when just two games were worthless and the rest were crucial.
“It wasn’t the best result for us, but we’re over it now.”
“When you win an award like this, you are either a genius or you have the best coaching staff in the world — and I am here with all of my coaching staff, they know how much I value them,” the German said, praising his backroom staff.
Klopp also received the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy, which is voted on by the whole membership of managers from all divisions in English senior football and is named after the famed former Manchester United manager.
“Obviously, having my colleagues vote for you is the most significant prize you can have,” Klopp remarked.
“In general, I don’t believe in individual awards in football; it’s a team sport, and I’d be nothing without these guys.”
“It’s all about what we can do and what we’ve accomplished together.”
Liverpool will strive to add the Champions League to their stunning prize tally this season when they play Real Madrid in a Paris final on Saturday.
