Following the premiere of her film Onidiri, Olubukola Bolarinde, the Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Dot Limited, is preparing for her first solo art exhibition.
The exhibition, titled ‘106 Expressions,’ will be curated by Nike Davies-Okundaye, a famous cultural and art custodian, and will feature an intimate presentation of Bolarinde’s artworks inspired by experiences that span time and culture.
“It will be a collection of artworks showcasing our African history,” Bolarinde stated in a statement to Sunday Scoop. My experiences as a child in Africa have served as a source of inspiration for me. I hope the works will ‘transport’ anyone who sees them to a certain location and time as seen through the eyes of an African child.
A large majority of children will never get those experiences as our world evolves.”
Her art, according to the art aficionado, is also a sort of preservation. Each piece of art in the exhibition, she claims, will convey a distinct story. Bolarinde was born in Lagos but spent her formative years in Nigeria’s north, from Jos to Kaduna and Zaria, which aided in ‘creating her own sense of identity and diversity.’
She also revealed that she used a variety of mediums, including acrylics and oils on canvas, as well as rich textures, to create pieces that appear tactile and three-dimensional for the collection, which is set to debut on June 10, 2022.
