Kathryn Mayorga accused Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo of rape in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. In 2010, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kathryn Mayorga settled their dispute, but Mayorga filed a fresh civil complaint in 2018. Kathryn Mayorga’s attorney obtained sensitive documents illegally, according to Judge Jennifer Dorsey, who dismissed the case. Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese and Manchester United superstar, has had a civil action against him dismissed by a US court. Kathryn Mayorga accused Ronaldo of rape, alleging that the incident occurred in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. However, the events that followed the settlement resulted in the filing of a civil case, which has since been dropped.
The two sides met in January 2010 and came to an agreement on non-disclosure. According to The Independent, Ronaldo agreed to pay Mayorga $375,000 (about R5, 947 053) in exchange for her not speaking publicly about the claims.
During an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018, Mayorga officially accused Ronaldo of rape. Ronaldo refuted the allegations once more, claiming that he and Mayorga agreed to sleep with one other in 2009. The claims could not be substantiated beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Las Vegas police, so Mayorga chose to sue Ronaldo for damages in a civil action.
The charges made by the magazine in 2018 included documents claiming that Ronaldo was mentioned in a statement indicating Mayorga had said ‘no’ and’stop’ multiple times. The records were allegedly’stolen’ by hackers and then edited or altogether manufactured, according to the Portuguese star’s lawyers. Mayorga also said she was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement in 2010.
Football Leaks, a European investigation project, provided the information to Der Spiegel. Some of the information came from Ronaldo’s attorneys’ secret communications. According to CNN, Judge Jennifer Dorsey concluded that one of Mayorga’s attorneys contacted the source of the leak to request the records. The attorney’s method of obtaining the records was considered to be very negligent.
