‘Royal Storm’ Isaac Dogboe hopes to finish his forthcoming fight with Joet Gonzalez on July 23 in seven rounds. The bout is set for July 23 in Minnesota, USA, as a final eliminator for the WBO featherweight belt. After losing two consecutive world championship bouts to Emanuel Navarrete in 2018 and 2019, Dogboe is on a three-fight winning streak. Isaac Dogboe’s 2018 was a roller-coaster ride to say the least. Against Emanuel Navarete, the Ghanaian boxer suffered his first and only loss in his career. On December 8, 2018, he was defeated by Emanuel Navarrete in a unanimous decision at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York City.
Five months later, the two battled again, with Dogboe losing by technical knockout in the twelfth round.
After stopping Mexican American Chris Avalos in the final round of their featherweight contest at the MGM Grand in July 2020, Dogboe was able to bounce back.
Now, the former WBO junior featherweight champion has set his sights on Joet Gonzalez of the United States. Dogboe believes he will knock out Gonzalez in the first seven rounds of their battle. “I was in a position to contend for the title, but it didn’t work out, so I decided to face Joet Gonzalez for the mandatory shot,” Dogboe said to the Graphic Sports.
“The most important thing is to win, so I’ll see whether I can knock him out in seven rounds or win convincingly.” It can’t always be about the knockout, and I’m starting to enjoy my boxing again.
The winner of the fight between Dogboe and Gonzalez could face WBO featherweight champion Navarrete. The Mexican two-division champion is anticipated to step up to super featherweight to battle Shakur Stevenson, the unified WBC and WBO champion — a move that could result in the winner of the Dogboe v Gonzalez fight fighting for a vacant belt.

Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe of Ghana is set to fight Joet Gonzalez of the United States in a World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight bout in July. The ten-round featherweight match will now be the main event of a Top Rank card in Hinckley, Minnesota on July 23 on ESPN+. According to Boxing Scene, the improvement happened when Top Rank opted to move the original main event between former champions Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey to an ESPN platform on August 27.
