The New Patriotic Party (NPPKweku )’s Kwarteng, a representative for Obuasi West, has disregarded attempts to eliminate the E-levy.
Since the government has asked for assistance from the International Monetary Fund, some Ghanaians have demanded that the divisive tax be repealed (IMF).
Mr. Kwarteng asserts that the E-levy was never intended to take the role of the International Monetary Fund.
I’ve heard people claim in the past that an IMF program would ease the pain of the E-levy. It is planned for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to arrive and start talking. It’s not like they visit your country and propose lowering your taxes.
They might even believe that the E-levy is insufficient. If the IMF intervenes in your economy, you might need to adopt new revenue sources, he said on Citi FM in Accra. He said, “Don’t hire people, cut your costs, and increase your income.”
The Ministry of Information announced on Friday, July 1, 2022, that President Akufo-Addo has given Ghana permission to start talks with the IMF for a bailout.
The administration has stated that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will represent President Akufo Addo in his meetings with the IMF.
