The singer Lasmid Owusu Nathaniel, also known by his stage name Lasmid, has proclaimed himself to be the biggest artist in Ghana right now.
The young man claimed to be in front of well-known and enduring artists like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and others while being hosted in Accra’s studios.
He said that his approach is distinctive and that this has made him popular since his songs have dominated digital streaming platforms, albeit he made no specific reference of anyone by name.
The “Friday Night” singer claimed that his claim was not intended to denigrate anyone, but given his quick ascension in the business, he feels he has earned the right to have that bragging privilege.
Giant record companies Empire and Sony have recently expressed interest in signing the young vocalist, according to Sadiq Abdulai, the CEO of 3Music. This was revealed in a lengthy essay in which he lauded the rapidly developing artist and the fervor he’s bringing to the team.
According to him, Empire unites Andy Dosty, Fireboy DML, Kidi, Black Sherif, and Kizz Daniels. Let’s take a moment to reflect on it and allow it to soak in. All of it is engineered.
Every achievement, every figure, every publication, every placement during performances at big festivals, BET Awards, 3Music Awards, and playlisting in apps, also known as editorial leveraging, are all structured to produce a result that should guarantee return on investment. It is an EMPIRE mentality.
We’ll start to see the big picture once Lasmid signs with either Empire or Sony (The two are after him and one of them may just close in on him).
Currently, our industries are divided into two areas. What we believe it to be and what is actually taking place in plain sight, in silence, and in the midst of very, very young kids. They seldom ever converse.
They don’t seem to be around; all they do is act and work. Some of them are a part of the Recording Academy’s new, daring generation for a cause. The new daring generation has me incredibly excited.
from the skills of their generation to the work-driven by insights that they are doing. We may all be proud of the new executive classes, emerging talents, and emerging transformations. Congratulation to Kwapz, iMullar, and Lyza (Boomplay).
Shout-outs go out in particular to Benewaah (Spotify), Yaw Dan, Swaye, Pep Junia (Sony Music WA), Aubrey, Ricky, Demzy, Hassan, Kwabena Wiredu, Toscar, and Tilly Nipaa, along with all the other incredible young people running with it and actively generating value for the industry.
Our creative industries are headed for some interesting times in the next years. PS: Please don’t become bored if I don’t mention your name. There are far too many examples of young people making a difference.
