At the 2022 CAF Football Awards held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday night, Sadio Mane was named Africa Player of the Year. The 30-year-old Senegalese forward defeated competition from fellow countryman Edouard Mendy and ex-teammate Mohamed Salah of Liverpool.
A colorful event was held in Rabat to offer the prize to the champion of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Following his bravery with the Teranga Lions at the beginning of the year, Sadio Mané has been honored with a massive painting in his village of Diamniadio, Senegal. This year, the West African nation won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time ever thanks to the Bayern Munich player, who scored the game-winning penalty as they defeated Egypt.
As the residents of Diamnidio honor their hometown hero, Senegalese artist Semedo posted pictures of the mural’s painting on social media.
