Tennis player Serena Williams has declared her retirement.
In the most recent issue of Vogue, the eminent tennis player stated: “It’s the most difficult thing I can imagine. I don’t want it to end, but I’m also prepared for what comes next.”
Williams’ retirement won’t happen right away. She stated in her article for Vogue that she is still optimistic that she would be able to compete in the US Open in New York later this month.
She penned: “I regret not having been prepared to win Wimbledon this year. Furthermore, I’m not sure if I’ll be prepared to win New York. But I’ll make an effort. And the warm-up competitions will be enjoyable.

However, I’m not searching for a solemn, on-court moment. I’m the worst person in the world at saying goodbye. But please understand that there are no words to adequately describe how grateful I am for you. You have helped me achieve so many victories and so many awards. That tennis-playing version of myself will be missed. And you will be missed by me.
In order to spend more time with her husband Alexis and their five-year-old daughter Olympia, she further stated that she is retiring.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion also disclosed that she will soon begin trying for a second child.

“Alexis and I have been trying to have another child for the past year, and we recently received some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel like we can add to our family whenever we’re ready,” she wrote.
“As an athlete, I definitely don’t want to get pregnant again. I have to be playing tennis with two feet in or two feet out.
