Bruno Fernandes, a midfielder for Manchester United, has attacked those who have criticized him for being treated differently from other foreign players in the English Premier League.
Fernandes stated the Ivory Coast international had a few poor performances and that everyone was suggesting he still has to adapt, using Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe as an example.
The international midfielder from Portugal has been Man United’s best acquisition since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and he has flourished since joining for £47 million from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
Upon his arrival, the 28-year-old completely changed Man United’s fortunes, guiding the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
However, because of criticism of his passing and a propensity to choose the harder option when an easier pass is available, Fernandes struggled at Man United last season.
The Athletic quoted Fernandes as stating, “He [Nicolas Pepe] had some awful performances and everyone was thinking, ‘He still has to adapt’.”
However, Bruno’s poor performances were just the result of his complaining or lack of concentration.
“That was excellent for me because it indicated I was prepared and that’s why they were expecting so much of me,” she said.
In 2019, Pepe moved from Lille to Arsenal in a £72 million deal.
Ligue 1 team Nice is now hosting the 27-year-old on loan.
