Rodri, a midfielder for Manchester City, has requested manager Pep Guardiola to extend his contract and stay with the team.
Guardiola is the ideal coach, according to Rodri, to guide Man City to further championships in the near future.
Guardiola’s current term with Man City is up in the summer of 2023, but the former Barcelona manager has been coy about any potential extensions, raising doubts about his future with the Premier League champions.
Although Guardiola has already spent more time at Etihad than any other team he has managed, Rodri thinks Guardiola is best equipped to extend his tenure at Man City.
“We all love him, he’s done a great job in recent years,” Rodri told The Times.
“He’s our manager and if he decides to stay, we are all going to be so happy. I have been with Pep for three years now and I hope there can be many more.”
He added, “It is a fact that coaches get tired. I saw Diego Simeone, coaches who have been 11 or 12 years with the same team, and it’s understandable.
“But with this team we have for the next few years, I think Pep can see the future of this club.
“He has to be here. He is the perfect coach for us and we can win more things together.”
