The former Olivier Giroud of Arsenal is the hardest striker that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has faced.
Giroud played in England for nine seasons, three of which the Gunners won the FA Cup.
The 36-year-old has always contributed goals everywhere he has worked and last season, he added to his collection of trophies by winning the Serie A with AC Milan.
Van Dijk is quite complimentary of Giroud despite having faced some of the top strikers in the world while competing in the Premier League and Champions League.
Van Dijk stated on The Overlap, a program produced in association with Sky Bet, that “Olivier Giroud was the striker I’ve struggled against the most.”
“I always thought I had him, but he always found a way to score against us,” she said. He consistently scored, whether it was for Arsenal, Chelsea, or France.
“We defeated Chelsea 5-2 the season we won the Premier League in 2019–2020. He scored a scrappy goal when we were up 3-0, and I thought to myself, “We’re winning easily, but he’s still scoring against me.”
