The Manchester United icon is reportedly “bemused” by Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarks about him, but he won’t make a public statement about them.
Ronaldo blasted the Premier League squad, manager Erik ten Hag, and ex-teammates Gary Neville and Rooney in an interview with Piers Morgan.
The 37-year-old claimed Rooney was envious of him because “he concluded his career and I’m still playing at a high level,” in reference to their relationship.
According to Sky Sports News, Rooney has decided not to issue a public statement in response to the incendiary interview.
Rooney “feels that Ronaldo needs to recognize he is in the latter stages of his career,” the article continued. However, playing for a team the size of Manchester United requires respect for the situation and a lack of expectations regarding playing time.
