Asamoah Gyang, a legend in Ghana, claims that Oliver Giroud is nowhere like Thierry Henry, despite the AC Milan forward breaking Henry’s French goal record.
Giroud, who scored the first of France’s three goals in their 3-1 victory against Poland in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, surpassed Henry on Sunday as the most prolific scorer for the French men’s national team all-time.
When the former striker scored two goals in Les Blues’ 4-1 victory over Australia, he tied Henry’s 15-year-old record.
After the game, Gyang told SuperSport that Giroud was able to score so many goals because he usually plays as an unabashed striker, unlike Henry, who, in his opinion, did not.
“In terms of quality, Giroud is consistently in the box like a standard number nine, but if you look at what Thierry Henry has accomplished, I don’t think he [Giroud] has come close to what Henry has accomplished.
However, Giroud has the quality of putting it there whenever he gets the chance. He is one of the strikers I have seen that touches the ball when he enters the box and gets it there.
