Cristiano Ronaldo, a forward for Al Nassr, sold his 2013 Ballon d’Or to Idan Ofer, the richest man in Israel.
The Make-A-Wish foundation received over £532,000 through the plaque’s charity sale, which raised money for the organization.
According to Marca, Ronaldo asked for a copy of the trophy to be built to sell at a charity auction in London because the genuine one is apparently on exhibit at his Madeira museum.
In the course of his great career, Ronaldo has received the honor five times.
One of his five accolades came to the then-Real Madrid forward in 2013, almost edging out Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery.
In the 2012–13 campaign, Ribery led Bayern Munich to a treble.
Despite having 55 goals for Los Blancos, Ronaldo was unable to win a trophy as Barcelona won LaLiga and Bayern won the Champions League.
Forbes estimates that Ofer is worth £8.1 billion. He made his money in the mining, transportation, and energy industries before entering the sports business.
