Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu, has explained why she insisted on giving her daughter the first name of her father in addition to her own.
This information was revealed by Bose, who also serves as her son’s manager, at a dinner held on January 16 to celebrate the 60th birthday of a media, arts, and culture executive named Jahman Anikulapo at Freedom Park on Lagos Island.
She insisted on adding her father’s first name to her last name because she didn’t want to be mistaken for another Idonije, according to Bose.
The co-host of the dinner, Pamela Udoka, who was a year younger than Bose Ogulu in secondary school, pleaded with the latter’s husband to allow her to be referred to as Bose Benson-Idonije during the introductions.
She explained that Bose didn’t like being addressed as Bose Idonije but insisted on adding her father’s first name to her surname back in secondary school.
Later, Bose revealed that she insisted before getting married that people refer to her as Bose Benson-Idonije because she didn’t want to be confused with another Idonije.
“I was in 300 level when I had to drop out. I cried a lot coz of this. This made me to go through a lot. I had to take care of myself. I don’t owe my mum anything cos I was in the street way too early, bringing things home, she never asked me how or where I got it from. My father has never been proud of me. Uttering a statement like I’m a mistake,” she said.
