Kevin De Bruyne is no longer the answer to all of Manchester City’s issues, according to Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola claims he is ready to bench the midfielder.
For City, De Bruyne has developed into a talismanic figure over the course of his eight-year tenure.
Guardiola has made a few minor adjustments to his system since signing Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022, and the Belgian is now 31.
“Seven years we know each other very well. I know when Kevin is ready and sometimes not. Sometimes we need another type of player in that position. Sometimes we need more players in the boxes and Kevin struggles a bit right there.
“Big competition in the squad. Some games need a specific player that Kevin for example struggles a little bit,” Guardiola said.
