Nollywood actor Willams Uchemba has criticized INEC personnel for their treatment of Nigerians attempting to obtain their voter registration cards.
He bemoaned the challenges voters are facing as they try to pick up their ballots at INEC centers around the nation.
Videos of eligible voters sobbing over the way some INEC employees treat them—staff members who even go as far as collecting money before handing them the cards—have surfaced online.
The actor, who was born in Abia State, shared a video of various Nigerians protesting their inability to pick up their Permanent Voters’ Cards, or PVCs, from their respective zones on Instagram.
According to Uchemba, INEC cannot disenfranchise people and expect a free and fair election. He bemoaned the fact that most registered voters are informed by INEC workers that their PVCs are either “not ready” or “cannot be located.”
He said he “hopes INEC is prepared for what is ahead”
He pleaded with the electoral umpire to take the necessary action to put the situation in order.
