Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, alleged that their Premier League opponents want them to leave the Champions League.
He said that at least nine clubs petitioned UEFA to ban City from Europe’s top league.
The more than 100 complaints the Premier League has lodged against the Etihad club, in Guardiola’s opinion, are a result of other clubs’ enviousness.
The clubs allegedly went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in 2020 requesting a two-year suspension from City’s participation in Champions League football, according to the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach.
City ultimately prevailed in their CAS appeal and kept competing in the Champions League.“When a team is winning you want to beat them. That is nice. It happens.
“But what these nine teams have done, I don’t forget it.
“They want the position in the Champions League for the big amount of money to pay for the stadiums they built,” Guardiola said.
