In the early hours of last Monday, an earthquake that struck Turkey confined Atsu.
He is one of the many people who are stranded in the earthquake that devastated a large section of Turkey and has already claimed thousands of lives.
Last Sunday, the former Chelsea and Newcastle United striker scored his first goal for Hatayspor as they defeated Kasimpasa 1-0 in the Turkish Super Lig. He did so after coming off the bench.
He entered the game for the third time this year in the 82nd minute, taking Rayan Aabid’s place.
The 31-year-old scored in injury time to lift Hatayspor to the 14th spot on the standings and out of danger of the drop.
Following the game on Sunday, Atsu expressed his joy at scoring for his club on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
He tweeted on February 5: “Important win for the team. Happy to be on the scoresheet @hatayspor.”
