Cesc Fabregas, a former captain of Arsenal, insists that Arsene Wenger did not re-sign him for the club before he joined Chelsea in 2014 because the Frenchman was “hurt.”
Wenger’s hesitation, according to Fabregas, was caused by the fact that Fabregas decided to leave Arsenal in 2011.
During their time together at Arsenal, the Spaniard was in fact a tremendous help to Wenger.
Fabregas chose to leave Arsenal before joining Barcelona, despite spending eight years with the North London club.
I genuinely wanted to return to the Premier League, Fabregas remarked on Kammy and Ben’s Proper Football Podcast.
“When I signed my contract with Barcelona, it stated that Arsenal would have first dibs on my services after I leave.
“In the contract when I signed for Barcelona we said that, after I leave, Arsenal will have the first option.
“They had a week to respond. So obviously, we approached Arsenal, we said, “Listen, I am leaving Barcelona and by law, you have a week to decide if you want to take me back or not.
He added, “I think also he was a little bit hurt… by how I left and everything.”
